To Prospective Meals on Wheels Volunteers:

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Charleston Area Meals on Wheels. Help better the lives of seniors, ages 60 plus, in Charleston County and parts of Berkeley and Dorchester Counties!

Charleston Area Meals on Wheels serves fragile, low-income seniors who are home-bound, have moderate to severe physical restrictions and can no longer perform the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) such as driving, shopping, carrying, menu planning, cooking and safely serving meals

Monday through Friday, through a network of dedicated staff and volunteers, Meals on Wheels packages over 600 individual meals, packs the meals in insulated containers, assembles up to six components in the delivery vehicle, then delivers the meal to the senior in addition to performing a visual safety check. This meal may be their only #OneHotMeal for the day and the Meals on Wheels Delivery Technician and volunteer the only daily human contact they will have.

Volunteer as much or as little as your schedule allows. Volunteer shifts last about 1 to 4 hours.

Meals on Wheels Meal Packer: Prepare meals for delivery.
- This includes portioning food and maintaining a clean work area. Monday- Friday 7:30am-9:30am
Driver Helper:
- Rides along with driver to help take meal to client’s door. Monday- Friday 9am-1pm
Regular Driver:
- Picks up and delivers nutritious meals to recipients. This includes making a cursory assessment of each recipient. Monday- Friday 9am-11:30am. Route times vary
Client Activity Assistant:
- Assist with daily/monthly client activities at the senior center- Bingo, Zumba, and Yoga Assist with lunch service. Opportunities may vary- but generally Monday- Friday 10am-Noon.
Emergency Food Pantry Pantry Coordinator:
- Assist with unloading/stocking food into pantry from deliveries from food bank. Assist clients with shopping and complete required paperwork. Training provided. Wednesday.
Other Opportunities:
- Do you have a special skill? Can you teach a fitness class? Sing, play an instrument? Are you crafty? Would you like to teach a class on a regular basis? Do you have handyman skills? Our center always has maintenance/repair needs.
Business Involvment:
- Would your business like to sponsor an event for our Senior Center clients? Ride a route or sponsor a route?
